News from fall 1964:
Strasburg gets new head coach
Glenn Proctor, a native of Elk View, W.Va., yesterday assumed his new duties as athletic director at Strasburg High School.
He succeeds James Jay, who left Saturday to take over coaching duties at Warren High School, Barlow, Ohio. Mr. Jay has served as athletic director at Strasburg for the past three years.
Another Strasburg coach, Russ Shepherd, has accepted a position as athletic director at Waterford High School, Waterford, Ohio. Mr. Shepherd plans to leave Strasburg Aug. 24 for Waterford, where he will also serve as head basketball and baseball coach.
Mr. Proctor and Mr. Shepherd were baseball teammates at Glenville State College, Glenville, W.Va. The new Strasburg athletic director majored in physical education and social studies at the college and received his B.S. degree in 1962.
Proctor's last coaching assignment was at Green Bank High School in West Virginia. During his two years at Green Bank, he coached football, basketball and track.
Football practice got under way yesterday on the Strasburg gridiron, and at present Proctor's main objective is shaping up the Rams for a winning season.
Proctor said the 34 footballers that turned out yesterday for practice "looked good, spirited and eager." Practice sessions will be held twice daily from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. until school starts, the new coach said. |
