Shenandoah County update
The following is an update from the Shenandoah County Emergency Operations Center:
* There are still around 1000 customers in Shenandoah County without power.
* The EOC is continuing to work to get gasoline to citizens depending on generators for power.
* We are continuing to work with residents that are unable to remove fallen trees from driveways.
* We have received some calls concerning sheltering. Alternative shelters have been made available.
* Currently the EOC staff is evaluating water needs for the agriculture community; those farms depending on automatic watering equipment with no power.
Shenandoah County offices will be open on time Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon for the region. The NWS reports there is a potential of 5 or more inches of snow heading our way. Temperatures will be near freezing Tuesday and then will drop into the 20s Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

School closures:
* All Lord Fairfax Community College campuses will be closed on Monday. Day and evening classes are canceled. No employees should report to work.
* Frederick County Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
* Shenandoah County Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
* Winchester Public Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.
* Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
* Warren County Public Schools will be closed Monday.
* Page County Public Schools will be closed Monday.
* Clarke County Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

More than 7,000 power customers in Frederick, Clarke, Page, Shenandoah and Warren counties are without power this morning. Here's the breakdown:
Allegheny Power:
* Frederick County: 1,098 customers
* Clarke County: 988 customers
* Page County: 1,089 customers
* Shenandoah County: 194 customers
* Warren County: 2,663 customers
Dominion Power:
* Shenandoah County: 258 customers
Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative:
* Shenandoah County: 752 customers

Shenandoah County Emergency Operations Center reports the following this morning:
* The emergency shelter at Peter Muhlenberg Middle School has closed as of 7 a.m.
* There are still approximately 600 customers in the county without power.
* Many secondary roads remain snow covered.
* We continue to assist VDOT with tree removal from roadways by providing a 10 person chainsaw strike team from Eastern Virginia.
* We continue to maintain staffing in the Emergency Operations Center with reduced staff members.
* Reported snow accumulations 30" to 34"

The National Weather Service reports that the 32.4-inch snow accumulation at Dulles International Airport exceeds the previous two-day storm record of 23.2 inches recorded on Jan. 7-8, 1996.
The Ronald Reagan Washingtion National Airport's 17.8 inch two-day storm total is the second highest on record, second to 18.7 inches recorded Feb. 18-19, 1979. The recent snowfall total is the fourth highest two-day all-time snowfall for records dating back to 1871. The other three storms were the Jan. 27-28, 1922 Knickerbocker storm with 26 inches, the Feb. 12-13 1899 storm with 19 inches and the Feb. 18-19, 1979 storm with 18.7 inches.
Weather observers reported the following accumulations on Saturday:
* 1 mile east, northeast of Howellsville in Warren County: 37 inches at 5:05 p.m. Saturday
* 2 miles north of Linden: 34 inches at 5:30 p.m. Saturday
* 1 mile southwest of Front Royal: 26 inches at 2:38 p.m. Saturday
* 2 miles east of Armel in Frederick County: 31.5 inches at 7:45 p.m. Saturday
* 1 mile north of Wilde Acres in Frederick County: 31.0 inches at 5:30 p.m. Saturday
* 2 miles east of Stephens City: 27 inches at 4:47 p.m. Saturday
* 2 miles south of Winchester: 24 inches at 5 p.m. Saturday
* 1 mile northwest of Berryville: 32 inches at 2:30 p.m. Saturday
* 1 mile north,northeast of Boyce: 32 inches at 7:40 p.m. Saturday
* 2 miles northeast of Berryville: 30.5 inches at 5 p.m. Saturday
