Winchester to test, flush fire hydrants

Winchester will be testing and flushing fire hydrants throughout the city from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning March 22 and continuing through May.

According to the Winchester CitE-News newsletter issued today, residents won't be without water, but they may notice some discolored water that would contain "harmless silt and precipitates and does not affect the safety of the water." Discolored water, the city advises, can be cleared up in homes by running all water faucets for a minute or two.

In addition to the flushing, the city will be installing fire hydrant locators on the 1,200 fire hydrants to provide better visability of the hydrants.
