On the roads, Dec. 5-9


The Virginia Department of Transportation reports the following road work for Dec. 5-9:
 
ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound - Debris removal, bridge sweeping and barrier wall cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Mile marker 21 - Repairs on Route 696 Bridge over I-64. Shoulder and lane closures, Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion is January 5, 2012.
 
Primary Roads
* Main Street (Route 60, Clifton Forge) - Smith Creek Bridge replacement project - Main Street, westbound from the intersection of Ridgeway Street to Commercial Avenue will be closed September 8, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Westbound traffic will detour onto Ridgeway Street. Ridgway Street, eastbound and westbound, will have two-way traffic during this time. Bridge construction will occur from September 19, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Main Street closed between Route 60/220 and Commercial Avenue. Detour signs through the area using Business Route 60 and West Ridgeway Street.
* (NEW) Route 220 - Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
 
Secondary Roads
* Route 661 - Bridge deck replacement at intersections of Route 600 and Route 683. Traffic reduced to one 10-foot lane, 24 hours-a-day. Traffic controlled with temporary signals. Estimated completion is late December.
* (NEW) Various roads - Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads - Brush cutting and shoulder repairs. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
 
BATH COUNTY
Primary Roads
No lane closures reported.
 
Secondary Roads
* Various roads - Brush cutting, patching, pothole repairs, tree trimming and pipe replacement. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
 
ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Mile marker 57 to 41, eastbound and westbound - Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 
Interstate 81
* Mile marker 173 to 205.1, northbound and southbound - Debris removal, bridge sweeping and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Mile marker 191.5, Ramp A, northbound - I-81 and I-64 westbound interchange. Bridge work. Shoulder closures, Monday to Thursday. Estimated completion is Dec. 9.
* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound - Truck climbing lane project. There are no lane closures on I-81 for the truck climbing lane project this week.

Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Various roads - Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads - Pipe cleaning, grading, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
 
HIGHLAND COUNTY
Primary Roads
* Route 250 - Replacement of bridge over Crab Run in McDowell, from 0.01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.014 miles west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Single-lane traffic with 14-foot width restriction and three-way traffic signal at Route 250 and intersection of Route 654. Flagger traffic control at various locations when needed. Work will take place 24 hours-a-day. Estimated completion is October 2012.
 
Secondary Roads
* Various roads - Grading, shoulder and pothole repairs. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
 
AUGUSTA COUNTY
Interstate 64
No lane closures reported.
 
Interstate 81
* Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound - Debris removal and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 
Primary Roads
* Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) - Expect a lane shift and two-way flagging operations from Route 646 (Fadley Road) to Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) for truck crossings, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Route 256 - Paving and shoulder grading, just east of Route 11, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
*Route 256 - Shoulder closures from Route 276 (Keezletown Road) to Route 847 (Valley Church Road).
* (NEW) Route 340 - Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads - Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
 
Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) - Water line installation at the intersection of Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and Westport Run. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.
* Route 862 (Furnace Road) - Roadway upgrades and rural rustic work from Route 601 (Estaline Valley Road) and end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures.
* Route 1204 - Rural rustic road project. Intermittent lane closures. Estimated completion is Dec. 31.
* (NEW) Various roads - Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads - Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
 
 
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
Interstate 81
* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound - Debris removal, delineator and cable tension work, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
 
Primary Roads
* (NEW) Route 42 (Main Street, Town of Broadway) - Gas line installation from Route 1421 to Route 1415 (Early Road). Shoulder closed.
* Route 340 - Shoulder closure from Route 649 (Island Ford Road) to Route 642 (Captain Yancey Road) for railroad crossing repairs. Estimated completion is Dec. 31.
 
Secondary Roads
* Stone Spring Road - Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.
* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) - Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Route 727 (Airport Road) - Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.
* Route 865 (Gravels Road) - Dominion Virginia Power line installation. Work is from Route 753 (Kratzer Road) to Route 720 (Irish Path). Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is Dec. 31.
* Route 1417 (East Avenue) - Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.
* Route 1418 (Second Street) - Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.
* Route 1424 (Lindsey Avenue) - Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closure and possible shoulder closure.
* Route 1432 (Fifth Street) - Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.
 
 
PAGE COUNTY
Primary Road
* Route 340 - Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 2.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.
* Various roads - Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
 
Secondary Roads
* Route 686 (Smeltzer's Road) - Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer's Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.
* Various roads - Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
