Man charged in assault

A man accused of stabbing a store clerk following an altercation shortly after noon on Monday has been arrested.

Winchester police were called to the Winchester News Stand, 30 E. Picadilly St., to investigate a stabbing, according to a news release.

According to the release, a 77-year-old clerk was stabbed in the wrist by a customer. The clerk was treated at the scene.

Police arrested Nicholas West, 56, no address listed, on North Loudoun Street. He was charged with malicious wounding and transported to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.
