Drug task force hosts heroin summit

Daily staff report

Local, state and federal agencies participated in a heroin summit at the Warren County Public Safety Building in Front Royal on Monday.

In a news release, Shenandoah County Sheriff Timothy C. Carter, chairman of the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, said representatives from agencies met to discuss critical issues related to heroin. He noted that the event provided a forum for talks that will heighten the region's response to the heroin epidemic.

Participants in the meeting included representatives from the U.S. attorney general's office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI, commonwealth attorney's offices, Valley Health, Northwestern Community Services, the District Office of Probation and Parole and other area law enforcement agencies.

The drug task force, which sponsored the event, is composed of Virginia State Police, Winchester, Strasburg and Front Royal police and the Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Frederick and Page county sheriff's offices.
