Fire damages Middletown residence Monday night

Frederick County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at an empty residence in Middletown on Monday night.

The county received a call about the fire at 500 Reliance Road at 8:45 p.m. and fire and rescue crews from Middletown and Stephens City, as well as the Frederick County Battalion 10 duty officer, and the Fire Marshal’s office responded, according to a news release.

It was noted in the release that smoke from the fire was spotted in two first-floor windows of the building.

Firefighters were able to extinguish most of the blaze within 20 minutes of arriving at the scene. No injuries were reported, and no one was in the building at the time of the fire, according to the release.

Responders stayed on the scene for mop up, salvage and overhaul for about five hours.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
