Florida man crashes into police car

A Florida man has been charged with reckless driving and operating a commercial motor vehicle with a suspended license after crashing into a Virginia State Police trooper's vehicle Monday. Courtesy photo by Virginia State Police

A Florida man has been charged with reckless driving after running into a Virginia State Police trooper’s car Monday morning, according to a news release issued by Virginia State Police.

Hans R. Gage, 54, has also been charged with operating a commercial vehicle with a suspended license. The vehicle has been identified as a 1987 Kenworth tractor-trailer truck.

According to the release, the truck crossed into the right-hand lane on Interstate 81 before the truck ran off the side of the road and into the driver’s side of state trooper W.A. Connelly’s vehicle.

The accident happened at mile maker 314 on I-81 shortly after 11:35 a.m.

The release stated that Connelly had pulled off to the side of the interstate for a traffic stop before the incident occurred.

Connelly was transported to Winchester Medical Center and released after being treated for minor injuries.

Mido, Connelly’s Dutch Shepard canine partner, was also treated for minor injuries at a nearby veterinary hospital.

State police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
