This year's top games

Week 1
7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31
Handley at Harrisonburg — Eschewing a first-week cupcake, Handley goes after Group AA power Harrisonburg on the road.

Week 2
7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7
Skyline at Warren County — Former Wildcats suit up against their old teammates as Warren County initiates brand new rival Skyline.

Week 3
7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14
Skyline at Strasburg — The Rams get their first crack at the new kids on the block with a chance to move closer to Glenn Proctor’s 300th win.

Week 4
7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21
James Wood at Millbrook — Both schools have a chance to gauge whether their significant progress of 2006 carried over.

Week 5
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28
Handley at Sherando — It will be surprising if these two haven’t established themselves as the best in the area by this point in the season.

Week 6
7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5
Warren County at James Wood — The Colonels should be starting to find out again if they’re for real.

Week 7
1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13
Central at Handley — This will be a good barometer on the early stages of the Mike Yew era.

Week 8
7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19
Stonewall Jackson at Riverheads — The first time Stonewall played Riverheads last year, Richard Long and Hunter Stout got hurt in a 21-8 loss. The second time, the Gladiators edged the Generals 10-8 in the playoffs. If the Generals say this isn’t an extra-important game, they’re lying.

Week 9
7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26
Sherando at Brentsville — The Warriors head into a tough environment as they try to improve their playoff resume.
