Oversize load on I-81 northbound lane to slow traffic

(From a press release) An oversize load truck carrying a steel structure for the U.S. Navy will be traveling north on Interstate 81 from Bristol to the West Virginia on June 17, and motorists should expect delays in the northbound lane.

The load, which is 28-feet wide, will block both lanes of northbound I-81. The cargo is bound for Baltimore.

The truck will enter Virginia around 1 a.m. Sunday, June 15 and will be parked in Abington until 9 p.m. June 17, when it will begin its journey. The truck will travel from 9 p. m. to 6 a.m. on June 18 and if needed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. June 19.

Virginia State Police will be escorting the truck and the truck will be pulled over periodically to allow traffic to pass.
