Troopers cite commercial vehicle drivers in Roadcheck 2008 blitz

(From a press release) Virginia State Police inspected 1,245 heavy commercial motor vehicles and placed 381 out of service during a three day Roadcheck 2008 campaign conducted June 3-June 5 across the state.

Over the three-day period, 63 drivers were found to be in violation of regulations governing safety equipment and the transportation of hazardous material. In addition, 2,982 safety violations were recorded. Faulty brake systems or brake adjustments accounted for 352 of those violations. Defective lights, tires and wheels were also among the most common violations. One vehicle can account for multiple violations

There were 15 commercial vehicle drivers charged with driving on a suspended driver's license, one driver was cited for driving on an expired license, three drivers failed to buckle up and there were 56 violations for hours of service by drivers and 11 false log citations issued.
