Winchester police investigate home invasions
The press release was issued this afternoon by the Winchester Police Department:
The Winchester Police Department is investigating an incident of unlawful entry and an incident of breaking and entering from residences in the north end of the City of Winchester.
On 12/15/08 at approximately 1915 hours, a resident of the 200 block of Fairmont Avenue reported that an unknown black male entered the residence while she was home. After hearing the door open, the victim looked into the kitchen and observed the male standing there. She told the male to leave, and he complied. No items were taken. She described the male as having a light complexion, approximately 5'9", slim build with short curly black hair. He was wearing a waist length tan or brown leather jacket.
On 12/15/08 at approximately 1930 hours, a resident of the 400 block of N. Braddock Street reported that an unknown male entered the residence while she was home. After her dogs began barking, she went to the area of the back door of her residence and observed a male standing near the doorway. The male had already removed a wallet from the residence before the homeowner saw him. He then fled on foot.
The Winchester Police Department reminds residents to keep their windows and doors locked even while home and to keep valuable items, such as wallets and purses, out of plain view from the outside of their homes.
Anyone with information concerning these incidents is urged to call Crimesolvers at 540-722-5200, where they can remain anonymous or the Criminal Investigations Division at 540-545-4704.
