(From a press release) FRONT ROYAL -- Janice Hart, Front Royal Police Department's community relations specialist, has completed training to become a certified crime preventionl specialist.

Interim Chief Richard H. Furr said the certification allows the department to better inform area residents in ways they can protect themselves and their property.

"As our nation faces tough economic times and a possible rise in crime rates, it is important that the citizens of Front Royal know what preventative steps they can take," Furr said.

Hart has worked with the police department since 2005, when she was volunteer coordinator for the department's "Volunteers in Police Service" (VIPS) program. She was hired in 2007 as community relations specialist.

The Front Royal Police Department offers the following programs to residents and businesses: Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, Citizen's Police Academy, personal safety awareness presentations, Community Awareness Bulletins, security assessments and the nationally recognized "Refuse to Be a Victim" training.

Contact Hart for more information about these programs: 540-631-2763.
