The following press release was issued by public affairs office of the U.S. Transportation Center at Fort Eustis: FORT EUSTIS -- Officials at Fort Eustis are investigating an incident involving two Soldiers assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity here. At approximately 6 a.m., Sunday, March 8, Fort Eustis Fire and Emergency Services reported an injured Soldier to the Fort Eustis MPs. Spc. Mitchell Stone was transported to a local hospital suffering from wounds to his neck. He was listed in stable condition. Our hearts and prayers go out to Spc. Stone and we hope for a full recovery The alleged assailant, Spc. Christopher Lanum, fled the scene and was pursued by law enforcement agencies outside the installation. Later, post officials received notification of his death. An investigation continues into the details of his passing and of the incident. Post officials offer the family of Spc.
