Grand jury indicts James Wood student on drug charges

The following press release was issued by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office today:

On March 5, 2009 two indictments were presented to the Frederick County Grand Jury. The indictments were a result of a joint safe school initiative that was conducted at the James Wood High School by the administration of James Wood and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office on February 24, 2009.

The Frederick County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office authorized two indictments,
which consist of:

  • Possession of more than one half ounce to five pounds of marijuana with the

  • intent to distribute.

  • Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute on a school property.

Named in the indictment is Aaron Lovett Pugh, of the 100 block of Witchhazel Trail. He
is a 19-year-old student at James Wood High School. A true bill was returned by the
Frederick County grand jury today.

The charges are a result of a Frederick County Sheriff's Office K-9 alerting on a 1996
Mitsubishi 300 GT parked on the lot of James Wood High School. A search of the
vehicle resulted in the seizure of seven baggies of marijuana located in a fake book,
$120 cash, a set of scales, and a smoking device.

Juvenile petitions are being sought against a 17-year-old juvenile for possession of
marijuana.

Frederick County Sheriff's Office K-9 alerted on a 1998 Honda Prelude parked on the lot of James Wood High School. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a baggie with a green leafy substance identified as marijuana.

No drugs were located in the school. It should be noted that James Wood High School
has over 1300 students, and only 3 were involved. This speaks highly of the student body at James Wood High School. This initiative was a cautionary and preventative step by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and Frederick County School's commitment to
provide a safe and drug free school environment.
