Winchester police honor their ownWINCHESTER - Medals and awards were presented to more than two dozen members of the Winchester Police Department and Volunteers in Policing during a ceremony Thursday night at the city's Social Hall in Jim Barnett Park.
Medal of Honor: Sgt. Ricky Timbrook. Those in attendance stood and applauded when Timbrook's family - his son Ricky, widow Kelly, his sister Kim Hudson and her daughter Ashley, accepted the award. Timbrook was killed in the line of duty in 1999. Edward N. Bell was later convicted and executed for Timbrook's slaying. 2008 Employees of the Year: Corp. Timothy P. Schraff and Major David White. Medal for Valor: Officer Tim Rice and Det. Robert Wolford. Purple Heart Medal: Officer Tim Rice and Corp. Robert Shickle. Life Saving Medal: Corp. Steve Spaid, Det. Adam Orndorff and Lt. Michael Ritchie. Distinguished Service Medal: Officer Tim Rice, Sgt. Justin Meredith and Sgt. Wallace Stotlemyer. Meritorius Service Medal: Det. Frank Myrtle, Det. Adam Orndorff, Det. Robert Wolford, Det. William Griffith and Sgt. Wallace Stotlemyer. VIP awards Volunteers in Policing received a Gold Level Group Presidential Volunteer Service Award as a group for volunteering more than 1,000 hours during 2008. The VIPs volunteered 2,912.8 hours. which is valued at $56,828 worth of time donated to the Police Department and the City of Winchester. Volunteer time in Virginia is valued at $19.51 an hour.
