The following press release was issued by the Front royal Police Department:

The Town of Front Royal Department of Environmental Services, Department of Public Works, and the Department of Energy Resources would like to announce that the Town is establishing a School Zone along Criser Road from Luray Avenue to the High School entrance on Criser Road.

Following the installation of the multiuse lane on Luray Avenue, the shoulder lines on Criser
Road and the crosswalk at the school entrance, a significant amount of pedestrian traffic now
uses this route to walk and ride bicycles to school.

Following discussion of this situation with school officials and the guidelines established by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the Town will be installing school crossing signs and reduce speed signs to establish the School Zone. Travel speed will be reduced to 15 mph along Criser Road during the morning and afternoon school travel periods.

The School Zone is to be established and operational on Tuesday, April 14.

Motorists are requested to observe the speed limit in this area during school travel periods and to be aware of pedestrian traffic in this area.

If you have any questions about this project, please contact the Department of Environmental Services at (540) 635-7819.
