Winchester police seek suspects in armed robbery

WINCHESTER - Winchester police are seeking two men suspected in an armed robbery that occurred at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the shopping center located at the intersection of Papermill and Weems Lane.

According to a press release issued today:

"At approximately 9:30 pm on April 28, 2009 the Winchester Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the shopping center located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Papermill and Weems Lane in the City of Winchester. Two males and one female were sitting in their vehicle when they were approached by a black male and a white male, who asked for a cigarette. The male victim sitting in the back seat of the vehicle handed over two cigarettes. The white male suspect then walked to the driver's side of the vehicle, opened up the driver's door, displayed an unknown black handgun, and demanded money."

The victims handed over their money, and one suspect took the vehicle key from the ignition. The suspects then fled southbound on foot down Roosevelt Boulevard.

Police and a Virginia State Police K-9 unit searched Orchardcrest Apartments but failed to locate the suspects. The victims were not injured.

The suspects are described as both in their 20s. The white male suspect was around 6 feet to 6-feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans, and a dark-colored hat. The black male suspect was 5 feet 9-inches tall. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and blue jeans.
