Winchester police seek suspect in ABC store robbery

The following press release was issued by the Winchester Police Department this afternoon:

"At approximately 10:47 am on October 22, 2008, the Winchester Police Department responded to a report of an Armed Robbery at the ABC store located at 2218 Valley Avenue in the City of Winchester. The clerk reported that a black male approached her, led her to the front of the store, and stated he wanted money from the cash register. The clerk opened the cash register, and the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money.

"The suspect displayed an unknown firearm during the incident, however no one was injured. The suspect then left the front of the store on foot. Information was received that the possible suspect ran across the parking lot of Kern Toyota through a walking path that led to the rear of the building.

"A search of the suspect utilizing a Winchester Police Department K-9 did not reveal the suspect or any further information. Evidence was collected at the scene.

"The suspect is described as:

"Black male, 5'11 - 6'0, approximately 30 years of age, thin build, wearing baggy brown pants, a white t-shirt, beige trench coat, and a black toboggan with an unknown white emblem.

"This incident is being investigated by the Winchester Police Department in coordination with the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers at 540-722-5200 or the Winchester Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 540-545-4704. "

Woman charged in attempted robbery of BB&T bank

WINCHESTER -- A woman has been arrested and charged in the attempted armed robbery of a Winchester BB&T bank branch this morning.

According to a press release issued by Winchester police, a woman standing at a drive through window at the bank at 115 N. Cameron Street passed the teller a note. The note said the woman had a gun and that she wanted $2,000.

Police responded to the bank at 8:44 a.m. and found the woman still at the drive through window. They arrested Melinda Early, 46, of Winchester, without incident.

No weapon was displayed and no money was exchanged, according to the release.

Schrock Travel owners injured in head-on collision in Tennessee

The Daily American in Somerset, Pa., is reporting that Larry and Dorothy Schrock , owners of Schrock Travel, Tour & Charter in Winchester, were injured in a vehicle accident on Friday in Cookeville, Tenn..

A passenger in their vehicle was killed when it was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver.

tennessean.com is reporting the Schrocks were treated at Cookeville Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

More meth lab arrests made

meth.jpgThe Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office reports today that two more people have been arrested in an ongoing meth lab investigation in Woodstock.

According to a press release issued today, Michael Dale Mullins of 3323 Main St, Toms Brook, and James Tyler Shillingburg II of 500 Rocky View Dr., Strasburg, have been charged with conspiring to manufacture methamphetamine and manufacturing methamphetamine.

Herndon police arrest Strasburg man

FairfaxTimes.com is reporting today that Herndon police have arrested Ricky Allen Long, 48, of Strasburg, on charges of making a false police report and embezzlement.

Strasburg police arrest burglary suspect

williams.jpgA Strasburg man has been arrested and charged in the theft of electronic equipment and video games from a Frontier Lane home.

In a press release issued today, Strasburg police say Brandon Scott Williams, 21, of 161 Taylor St., has been charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny and grand theft in the incident that occurred at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 300 block of Frontier Lane. He was arrested at the home of a relative in Strasburg.

Police say they believe the home was entered from a broken rear window. Stolen were a laptop computer, an Xbox 360 and two games.

The stolen items were recovered. Williams is being held in the Shenandoah County Jail.

Police log: Winchester man arrested in murder of his son

WINCHESTER -- Charles Samuel Walker, 68, of 328 ½ Highland Ave., has been charged with first degree murder in the Monday night shooting death of his son Bobby Jackson, 47.

Winchester police responded to a report that a person had been shot at 7:46 p.m. Monday at Walker's home on Highland Avenue. In a press release e-mailed to the media early this morning, Sgt. Amanda Baker said police found Jackson lying next to the residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene by fire and rescue personnel.

Walker was standing outside the residence and was arrested without incident. In addition to first degree murder, he is also charged with use of a firearm in the commission of murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police are asking anyone with information in the case to contact the Criminal Investigatins Division at (540) 545-4704 or Crimesolvers at (540) 722-5200.

Malicious wounding, abduction: On July 31, deputies arrested Michael Lee Rocha of Woodstock and Jessie Lee Herald of Edinburg on charges of malicious wounding and abduction. John Wesely Schnarrs of Mt. Jackson was arrested on Aug. 2 on a charge of malicious wounding. Court date: 9 a.m. Aug. 22 in Shenandoah County General District Court.

Destruction of property: On July 29, deputies arrested Lantie Lynn Pitsenbarger of Toms Brook on a charge of destruction of property in an incident that occurred on June 22. Court date: 9 a.m. Sept. 19 in Shenandoah County General District Court.

Credit card theft, credit card fraud: On July 30, deputies arrested Elizabeth Robertson of Woodstock on charges of credit card theft and credit card fraud in an incident that occurred on July 3. Court date: 9 a.m. Aug. 22 in Shenandoah County General District Court.

Rape: On July 21, deputies arrested Wesley Adam Lear of Mt. Jackson on a charge of rape. Court date: 9 a.m. July 24 in Shenandoah County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court.

Possession of marijuana: On July 21, deputies arrested Alvin L. Lambert of Strasburg on a charge of possession of marijuana. Court date: 11 a.m. July 25 in Shenandoah County General District Court.

Possession of a controlled substance: On July 24, deputies arrested Felicia Michele Merickel of Strasburg on a charge of possession of a schedule I and schedule IV controlled substance. Court date: 9 a.m. Sept. 19 Shenandoah County General District Court.

Assault and battery on a family member: On July 26, deputies arrested Wendy Elaine Mumaw and Keith Mumaw, both Quicksburg, on a charge of assault and battery on a family member. Court date: 9 a.m. Aug. 7 in Shenandoah County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. This incident occurred on July 5.

Larceny: On July 22, it was reported that someone took a four-wheeler from a residence on Coal Mine Road, Strasburg.
