newharp.jpg(From a press release) On April 19-20 at Park View Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg, HARP EXTRAVAGANZA II raised just short of $10,000 for the Fuller Center for Housing, a recent initative co-founded by Millard and Linda Fuller, co-founders also of Habitat for Humanity and present for the events. A challenge grant matched donations to this cause.

Producer was Jessica Frost, a resident of Stephens City and a graduate Harp Pedagogy major at Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, who has harp and piano studios in Winchester and Harrisonburg. Virginia Bethune, founder, produced HARP EXTRAVAGANZA I in Blacksburg in 2006 for a beneift for the Blacksburg Interfaith Habitat Group. In addition to proceeds received at that event, nearly $80,000 has
been raised by CD sales and events to Build Houses with Music.

Visiting recitalist and clinician for the event was Robbin Gordon-Cartier, of East Orange, N.J., a renowned performer in the New York area, recipient of many awards and grants for harp music in the public schools. Beginning harp study at age 9, she spent summers in Ireland and was a gold medalist at the Granard Harp Festival in Ireland.
