(From a press release) The 24th annual Camp Fantastic Golf Tournament, which raises money to send area children with cancer to camp, is scheduled for Friday, June 6, at Rock Harbor Golf Club in Winchester. The event is expected to attract 200 golfers, according to tournament director John Riley.

Registrations are being accepted through May 30 on a first-come, first-served basis. Cost is $300 per team or $75 per golfer with sponsorships beginning at $600. Information is available at 888-930-2707 or at dsmith@specialove.org.

In a departure from most traditional outings, the day will be treated as two independent tournaments with tee-offs at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Golfers will have two opportunities to win a free car provided by Stutzman Chevrolet*Cadillac*Buick and Kern Motors, as well as numerous contests and drawings.

This year's event will also honor long-time supporter Chuck Maddox, who passed away last fall.

"Chuck was an avid golfer and a long-time friend to Special Love," said Riley. "He helped introduce this event to the local development community and really helped us raise it to the high-level status it now enjoys. We're looking forward to remembering him at this year's event."

Riley said that proceeds are expected to top $30,000, thanks to lead sponsorships from Patton Harris Rust & Associates, Miller & Smith, the Shockey Companies, and the Prince Frederick Group.

Special Love, Inc. was founded in 1983 and is best known for hosting Camp Fantastic, a one-week adventure for 7-17 year olds who are within 3 years of their last cancer-specific treatment.
