STRASBURG -- Hometown Strasburg will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new downtown pocket park on Friday at 4 p.m.
The park, on East King Street next to the fire department, provides green space, as well as a gazebo and a "giant-sized checkerboard," for visitors and residents to enjoy, according to a press release. At Friday's event, the Rev. Rick Goeres, of St. Paul Lutheran Church, will give a blessing for the park, and Mayor Tim Crisman will announce the official name of the park, the release says.
After the ribbon cutting, refreshments will be served, and local musician Larry Haun will perform under the gazebo, the release says.
Several other musicians will perform under the gazebo on Saturday as part of Mayfest. Singer and songwriter Joe Herbert will perform from noon to 2 p.m., Chad See from 3:30 to 4 p.m., and Dry Mill Road from 4 to 6 p.m.
