The United Way of the Northern Shenandoah Valley is seeking volunteers for Day of Caring 2008. The event is from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10. For more information, contact Day of Caring co-chairman Mary Nordman at (540) 323-3232 or e-mail mary.nordman@vnb.com

Here's a press release on the Sept. 10 event:

Plans for DAY OF CARING 2008 are underway and we hope that we can count on your business/company/organization to send a team of volunteers this year on Wednesday, September 10th. Last year we saw 378 volunteers reach out to their neighbors to lend a helping hand in celebration of DAY OF CARING. These volunteer teams accomplished many projects that would otherwise have gone undone due to a lack of resources or manpower.

The volunteers, from area industries and organizations, tackled more than 150 projects at 60 locations in Winchester, Frederick, Clarke, and Shenandoah Counties. These energetic and enthusiastic teams scraped, painted, cleaned, trimmed, mowed, planted, built floors, cut down trees, mulched, laid vinyl flooring, cleaned gutters, visited the homebound, washed windows, cleaned upholstery, shampooed carpet, scrubbed floors, cleaned a stream of debris, and numerous other chores for local non-profit agencies and the clients they serve.

In today's economy, I am sure we will probably have an even greater number of people in need of help this year.

DAY OF CARING offers your employees an opportunity to work together as a team outside the workplace. Each DAY of CARING team will be assigned a project or projects for the day at one of the local non-profit agencies site location, or at the home of an agency client.

Please help by organizing a team today. Enclosed is a flyer to post for employees to sign-up. Please appoint a team leader or contact person, and provide their email address, phone and fax number.

We hope that we can count on YOU to join us on this day and put action to the words of our slogan....Live United. Give.Advocate.Volunteer.

Sincerely,

Bill and Mary Nordman
Day of Caring Co-Chairmen
