(From a press release) The Pilot Club of Harrisonburg will be participating in a world-wide event on Oct. 4. On that Saturday, Pilot Clubs around the world are holding Brain Power Walks to raise public awareness of local Pilot Clubs' volunteer work in their communities.

The Harrisonburg Pilot Club will walk in Dayton during the annual Dayton Autumn Celebration. Members will carry banners or placards and distribute information about brain-related disorders and the prevention of traumatic brain injuries.

The Pilot Club of Harrisonburg presents BrainMinder™ Buddies to local day care centers and at safety events such as Children First Day.

BrainMinder™ Buddies is an educational program aimed at children in pre-school through first grade, with illustrated animal characters who serve as safety role models.

With the help of matching grants from Pilot International Foundation, the Pilot Club of Harrisonburg has built a wheelchair ramp for the therapeutic riding program at Camp Still Meadows, installed a wheelchair lift for the Westover Park pool, and purchased equipment for local non-profits such as Friendship Industries, The Arc Op Shop and Generations Crossing.

The club also has distributed bike helmets to children.

Founded in 1921, Pilot International is a human service organization of volunteers working together to improve the quality of life in communities throughout the world. The organization's service focus is helping persons with brain-related disorders and disabilities through education, volunteerism, and financial support.

The Pilot Club of Harrisonburg has been serving the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County community since 1970.
