The Shenandoah Area Council of Boy Scouts is working hard to support our Troops throughout the world. To that end they have joined with Trail's End Popcorn to send them popcorn for the holidays. Military popcorn containers come in $25 and $40 sizes. The popcorn will be shipped directly from the Trail's End warehouse to Military personnel so there is no shipping cost to you. To support our Military with popcorn this holiday season please call 540-662-2551. Apple Federal Credit Union has partnered with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network to help provide for Winchester, VA area residents in need. Through October 31, 2009, Apple will be accepting non-perishable food item donations at its 1850 S. Loudoun Street branch. Donations can be made during branch hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Apple FCU serves as the official credit union for Winchester City and Frederick County schools, Valley Health Systems and numerous other local businesses. The United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley received more than $10,000 from Allegheny Energy's 2008 campaign, including both employee donations and corporate match. Participating in the recent check presentation were Allegheny account manager Jon Sisler and United Way representatives Bill Wolfe, Patricia Taylor and Joseph Shtulman.
Active Life Physical Therapy in Strasburg is collecting pet donations to be given to the Frederick County Animal Shelter. Items needed are cat and kitten wet/dry food, litter, litter boxes, clorox, paper towels, air fresheners.
Items may be dropped off at Active Life PT at 113-4 Founders Way in Strasburg or the Frederick County Animal Shelter at 161 Fort Collier Road, Winchester.
Sherando High School Choirs is seeking bands, dance groups, students, adults from Frederick, Clarke, Warren and Shenandoah Counties to audition for its talent show on February 18.

The Apple Valley Scale Company in Winchester is seeking donations of pet items through Dec. 19 for the S.P.C.A. and Ester Boyd Shelter. Items may be dropped off at 225 Lenoir Dr. or PetSmart on Nov. 29 and Petco on Dec. 6.

The Total Image & Workingman's Store in Winchester is collecting canned food through Thanksgiving to be donated to the Lord Fairfax Area Food Bank.
They are also sponsoring a "Christmas wish" and are soliciting names of families who are in need of extra help this Christmas. Submissions need to include the submitter's name and be turned in by Thanksgiving.

Bowman Library in Stephens City will hold a public paper shredding day on Nov. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. Dominion Document Shredding will shred on-site any amount of paper that the public bring. Households and small businesses are welcome.

On Nov. 8, local Boy and Cub Scouts will go door to door placing hangers/bags for non-perishable food items to be donated to local food banks.
The food will be collected on Nov. 15.
The Salvation Army is collecting turkeys for needy families through Dec. 19. Frozen turkeys may be taken to 300 Fort Collier Road. Donors will receive a $5 gift card from Sheetz.
Sheetz stores also will have collection boxes for non-perishable food items.
