Community youth sports newsMay 6, 2008Hershey Track & Field Meet set for May 10(From a press release) The Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting their Annual Local Hershey Track & Field Meet on Saturday, May 10 at the Southern Campus Track Field (behind North Fork Middle School, Quicksburg). Check-in time will be at 8 a.m. and the meet will begin at 9 a.m. The Hershey Track and Field Meet is for youth between the ages of 9 and 14 (as of Dec. 31). April 22, 2008 DodgeballWarren County Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a dodgeball tournament on Saturday, June 21, at the old Warren County High School gym. Registration is $80 per team. Games will begin at 9 a.m. There will be a round-robin format to determine seeding for a double-elimination tournament. Teams must consist of 6-10 players. JACKSON -- The big picture still exists, but a few snapshots must be taken first for the Shenandoah County Soccer League. On a 14-acre site off Koontz Road, the league plans to construct five fields to serve a growing youth soccer population that, according to the league's supporters, for years has faced ongoing issues with finding available and suitable locations to play. To get there, the plan is now going to unfold in phases. April 8, 2008 Junior USA Olympic Soccer Skills Competition set for April 27
(From a press release) A Junior USA Olympic Soccer Skills Competition will be held at 3 p.m. April 27 at the Central High School soccer field.
Youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 are eligible to compete. First place winners in each age group and gender will advance to the regional competition on June 14. The soccer competition will be co-hosted by the Shenandoah County Soccer League. Registration is on site and the event is free.

Millbrook High to host Pioneers boys basketball camp in JuneMillbrook High School and head boys basketball coach Scott Mankins will host the Pioneers boys basketball camp this June. For fourth-eighth graders, the camp will run from June 16-20 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. For 9th-12th graders, the camp will run from June 23-27, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The cost of the camp is $60 per person, which is due by June 1. Register now to join Front Royal Raptors wrestling teamThe Front Royal Raptors, a youth wrestling team, have started to practice. The team is for kindergartners to fifth-graders and the team will practice from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 25-June 14 at the Skyline High School wrestling room. Tournaments will be on Saturdays. Cost for beginner membership is $60. Members will get a T-shirt, and a USA wrestling card. There will be 24 practices. Competition membership cost $250. Competitors will receive a T-shirt, a USA wrestling card, a team Raptor singlet and entry fees for at least six tournaments. There will also be a car pool caravan to competitions. Registration can be done at any practice. All participants will need to bring the following information: birth date, weight, mom's phone (home, work, cell), dad's phone (home, work, cell), address and e-mail, t-shirt and singlet sizes, medical insurance info, physician's info and cash or check. Randolph-Macon College schedules soccer campRandolph-Macon College camp: Wakefield Country Day School will be the host for the Randolph-Macon College satellite soccer camp this summer. Placekicking and punting campThere will be a placekicking and punting camp held at McDaniel College on July 10-12. It is for anyone ages 10 and over. The early registration deadline is May 1. Tuition for overnight camps is $400 for first-year camper, $380 for second-year camper, $370 for third-year camper, $360 for fourth-year camper and $245 for parent or coach. Day camp tuition cost $350. For more information or to register, call 1-800-660-7176. Apple Valley league looking for playersThe Apple Valley Baseball League is looking for teams for the 2008 season. Blue Jays Baseball Club to hold exhibition series
The Blue Jays Baseball Club will be holding its 7th annual exhibition series near Cooperstown for high school teams in late April and mid-May.
There will also be three-game tournaments held for summer teams ages 13, 14U, 15U, 16U and 18U. Trophies and medallions are awarded. Night games and games on Doubleday Field are possible.
