WOODSTOCK -- The bank that holds the note on the Sirian Motel purchased the facility at auction Thursday morning.
Grant County Bank, based in Petersburg, W.Va., paid $250,000 for the property at 864 Main St., formerly known as the Woodstock Motel and Craven Hall Nursing Home. The purchase price was the bank's initial bid.
For now, the motel remains open, but the bank plans to begin marketing the 38,900-square-foot building to potential buyers, according to Vice President George Ford.
Local auctioneer Mark Pangle conducted the sale, which was held on the Shenandoah County Circuit Courthouse steps.
Kenny Garman, who owns Katie's Custard stand in front of the Sirian Motel and formerly owned the Budget Host Inn on U.S. 11 north of town, was on hand for the auction, but did not submit a bid.
