EDINBURG — Shentel will acquire approximately 1,000 land lines in northwestern Augusta County under an agreement announced this week with North River Telephone Cooperative.
North River’s local telephone operations are managed by Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative, based in Mt. Crawford.
The deal is Shentel’s first venture into Augusta County, and will enable residents to tap into Shentel’s other telecommunications services, including DSL, according to Executive Vice President Earle A. MacKenzie.
MacKenzie said the two parties have been in ongoing discussions about a possible deal.
The agreement is subject to approval by at least two-thirds of North River’s membership.
