LINDEN -- The Apple House has expanded its operations to include a frozen custard stand.
The Apple House Soft Serve Shop is located on Dismal Hollow Road, at the site where Warren County operated a refuse collection and recycling center. The county decided it needed more space and notified the Apple House of its plans to relocate.
"We began to brainstorm on what would be a good use of that small corner of land," said Katie Tewell, daughter of Apple House proprietor George McIntyre, "something that would serve not only tourists, but locals as well."
"The ice cream idea seemed to be the best fit," she said.
Tewell said the family also considered a pizza place, "but in the current economic situation we didn't feel willing to take on that task."
The Apple House offers an eat-in restaurant, carry-out, smoked barbecue and a gift shop featuring Crocs, Vera Bradley, TY, specialty bath products, Bridgewater candles, Virginia products, a large selection of hot sauces, Virginia wines, specialty jams and jellies, and many seasonal items.
