STRASBURG -- The landmark Hotel Strasburg will be sold at auction next month.
An estate sale is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. on site. Cleveland-based Chartwell Group, which auctioned off the Wayside Inn in Middletown in April, will handle the sale.
The historic hotel, which has been welcoming visitors to the Shenandoah Valley since 1915, has been in the Rutherford family since the early 1990s. Gary Rutherford ran the inn with his wife, Carol, until his death in February.
"This extraordinary property was restored in 1978 and has been well maintained by the Rutherford Family," auctioneer Gordon Greene states in a press release.
The property features 29 guest rooms, all with full baths, a full-service restaurant and kitchen, a bar and pub featuring live entertainment, banquet facilities and a separate five-unit apartment building.
Bidding on the property will open at $735,000, with a minimum purchase price of $990,000.
Interested parties must purchase an information packet prior to inspecting the property. Open houses are scheduled for Oct. 8, 17, 25 and 29.
A cashier's check for $55,000 is required to register to bid on the property. The closing date of the sale is Dec. 2.
