Nov. 28, 6:30 p.m. - The Shenandoah Valley Genealogical Society will present a program, "Garden Stones Long Forgotten," by Kay Cogswell at the Handley Regional Library, 100 W. Piccadilly St., Winchester (downstairs).
Kay Cogswell's presentation offers a brief history of the reason for and the development of "garden cemeteries." Her research in this field has taken her to 29 different cemeteries in six different states. Her presentation is predominantly a pictorial tour of Victorian tombstones, symbols and meanings.
The meeting is free, open to the public, and co-sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Genealogical Society (SVGS) and the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives at Handley Library.
