National Novel Writing Month

Area writing groups participating in National Novel Writing Month in November will offer the following free events for anyone planning to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days:

Oct. 29, 6 to 8 p.m. -- The writing group Winchester Nation will host Planning, Plotting & Pandora-Monium at Bowman Library, 871 Tasker Road, Stephens City. Come fill in plot holes, rein in wayward characters, learn how to iron out story problems, and help other writers shape up their outlines with only three days left before NaNoWriMo begins. Then get musically inspired to write scenes along to songs from Pandora online radio.

Nov. 1, 8 p.m. -- Winchester Nation will host a NaNo Kick Off: Writers Night Write In & Movie Lounge in Winchester, with a two-hour writing session beginning at 8 p.m., followed by Writer's Night at the movies. For more information, go to the Winchester Nation forum at www.nanowrimo.org.

Tuesdays and Nov. 29, 8 to 10 p.m. -- Write with Winchester Nation at Throx Market Station, 1016 Millwood Pike, Winchester.

Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m. -- The Shenandoah Valley Wrimos will host a write-in at Shenandoah Valley Artworks, 234 W. King St., Strasburg. Bring your own writing tools and get inspired with visual art and the clever company of other writers.

Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon -- Write with Winchester Nation at Panera Bread, 2605 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester.

Sundays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Write with Winchester Nation at the Daily Grind at Abrams Crossing, 621 W. Jubal Early Drive, Winchester.

Nov. 9 and 17, 2 to 5 p.m. -- Write with the Shenandoah Valley Wrimos at the NaNoWriMo Harrisonburg Write-In at James Madison University's Carrier Library, Room 109, 880 Madison Drive, Harrisonburg. Bring your own writing tools and join other novelists from around the area.
