Feb. 16, 2-4 p.m. -- The Strasburg Heritage Association will host a presentation by Dr. Clarence Geier and a brief meeting at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 193 W. Washington St., Strasburg. The program is free, and the public is invited to stay for fellowship and refreshments.
The presentation, Historical Archeology and Sheridan's 1864 Valley Campaign, will be an illustrated discussion on how historical archeology contributes to battlefield interpretation. Geier, retired from teaching at James Madison University, will use studies from Fishers Hill to Cedar Creek as examples of the importance of Civil War archeology, how to do it and what it reveals. He continues to teach and do field research, with a current interest in military sites.
