Poochie, I went to that web site to your URL, I think that is for canada? I wonder if there is a site for petitioning in the united states? I'll have to google it....
Yes, I realized that the Sludge Petition was for Canada but it presented important information that would be relevant to the concerns of residents of Warren County. See, #92 about getting sick from sludge. The site also allows us to start a petition for our local issues. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/create.html Does anyone know if farmers lose their property tax exemption if they make a commercial or industrial use of their land by allowing the dumping of sludge by a commercial company? Also, can local government prevent the transport of sludge over local roads, ie. to take contaminated sludge to a farm dump...
Thanks Ms. Sheilds for this information. Looks like Supervisor Carter needs to get the rest or the Supervisors to ask the Virginia Association of Counties to help with this issue. Perhaps if enough Counties agreed on this issue, the State would change its law. If not, then perhaps the Counties could pass local ordinances more stringent than the State law, and then fight it out in court. If what you think is true, looks like they would win hands down....
I've been in wastewater treatment for 30 years. You folks are really uneducated on biosolids. Do yourselves and others a favor and know what your talking about before you post a comment in opposing sludge management and use on farm lands. Wait until your landfills are full and you have nowhere to dump sludge. LOL You are getting for produce from other countries shipped into the country for consumption than ever before. Would you like to know what they use on their farm lands? Most people, including supervisors and local officials never even have visited their own waste treatment facility....
