Hospice run, walk to benefit Camp Hope

Blue Ridge Hospice plans its 11th annual 5K Run/Walk for 9 a.m. Oct. 19 at Blandy Experimental Farm/The State Arboretum of Virginia along U.S. 50 in Clarke County.

Race sponsors are BB&T and Allstate, and proceeds from the 5K will support Blue Ridge Hospice’s annual Camp Hope for children grieving the loss of a loved one, as well as other hospice services.

Blue Ridge Hospice has set a goal to raise $50,000 this year, and the public can support the event in numerous ways including by participating as a runner or walker.

The 5K course is a loop race on gravel and paved roads around and through the scenic arboretum. Runners and walkers can take advantage of the chip timing system that eliminates waiting in line and provides faster results. Awards and refreshments will follow the event.

Again this year, Blue Ridge Hospice challenges each participant to raise pledges of a $100 minimum, which will waive the registration fee. By accepting this challenge, runners and walkers also will be eligible for prize drawings donated by area merchants.

Sponsorship opportunities are available and donations to support the annual event are welcomed. Complete registration details and pledge forms are available online at blueridgehospice.org/5K or by calling Blue Ridge Hospice at 540-536-5210. Online registration ends Oct. 15, but participants may register the day of the event.
