Dr. Jonathan Noyalas will give a lecture on understanding the Civil War through soldier’s letters at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Samuel Public Library in Front Royal. Information: 540-635-3153.


The Shenandoah County Extension Leadership Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Extension office in Woodstock. Information: 459-6140.


The Frontier Culture Museum will present a hands-on program on historic architecture for ages birth to fifth grade at 10 a.m. Thursday at the New Market Area Library.

Belle Grove

Belle Grove Plantation, south of Middletown, will hold a story-time program of reading in the barn at 10 a.m. Thursday.

For those attending, a tour of the mansion will be free for one child with a paying adult.

Those who are part of the Valley Reads Program will earn a badge for attending the program and one for taking a house tour.

Gazebo Flix, a program showing family oriented movies outside, will feature “Casablanca” at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gazebo in Front Royal. Those attending should bring a lawn chair or blanket
