The following offices will be closed for the New Year’s holiday:

  • The Frederick County regional landfill and all citizens’ convenience sites will be closed Monday and at noon Tuesday.
  • Samuels Pubic Library in Front Royal will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • The Shenandoah County Extension Office in Woodstock will closed Jan. 1 in observance of New Year’s.
  • Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will closed Jan. 1-2 in observance of New Year’s. The library will reopen on Jan. 3 with regular hours.

Sky Meadows State Park will have a First Day Hike “History Gone Wild” 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 1. The park’s historian and naturalist will interpret stories reflected in the landscape of the park while exploring the park’s wild side and uncovering stories of past residents. Refreshments will be served in the Log Cabin after the hike. Approximate hike length is two hours. Information: SkyMeadows@dcr.virginia.gov or 540-592-3556.


The Hamburg Ruritan Club will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Edinburg.

Seven Bends 4-H

The Seven Bends 4-H Shooting Education Club will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at Round Hill Church of the Brethren. Information: 540-459-6140.


Clarke County Library in Berryville will hold Preschool Storytime for ages 3 and up 10:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays in January.  Hear great stories and have fun with Mary. Information: www.handleyregional.org.

Shenandoah County 4-H

The Shenandoah County 4-H Goat Club will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 3 in the cafeteria at Central High School in Woodstock. Information: 540-459-6140.

The Shenandoah County 4-H Exchange Club will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 in the courtroom of the Historic Courthouse in Woodstock. Information: 540-459-6140.


The WIC Breastfeeding staff will host The LATCH Circle from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Jan. 3 at the Handley Regional Library in Winchester. This is a casual time for mothers to share and encourage each other during their breastfeeding journey. Each class will feature games, giveaways and nutrition education credit. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month. Information: contact Jessica Vincent at 540-722-3470.


Handley Library will offer scheduled architectural and historical tours at 6:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month and 1 p.m. the third Saturday of the month. The tours will explore each floor of the library, including the famous glass floors and the well under the stage, and discuss its architectural features and its operational history. Bowman Library will host a La Leche meeting from 10-11  a.m. Jan. 4 in the Children’s Room. Natasha Ossinova, RN IBCLC, will lead this group for new and expecting mothers to talk with others, share experiences and find out more about breastfeeding and its benefits. The New Market Library will hold the following storytimes in January.
