Shrove Tuesday

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg will host a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper starting at 5:30 p.m. today.

St. James Lutheran Church at Hudson Cross Roads will hold its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake/sausage supper from 4-7 p.m. today. A free-will offering will be taken to support local fire and rescue departments.

Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 5-7 p.m. today.  A free-will offering will be accepted.

Ash Wednesday

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The worship service will include imposition of ashes.

Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Mt. View Parish will hold an Ash Wednesday service with sacrament of holy communion and imposition of ashes at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Woodstock.

 

Workshop

The Friends of Handley Library and the Winchester Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild will present an embroidery workshop from noon-2 p.m., today at Bowman Library in Stephens City. Elaine Evans will lead the “Animal Stories” workshop as part of National Embroidery Month and Stitch in Public Day. Clothing sale

The Woodstock Clothes Closet will hold a Valentine’s Day Sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday.  All clothing will be half off.

Bus trip

Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation will host a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show “Wonders of Water” March 9.  The bus will leave the Government Center in Woodstock at 5 a.m. and return at 11:30 p.m.  Cost is $104 and includes admission to the Butterflies Live exhibit as well as the flower show.  Food will be available for purchase. Trip is limited to 45 and registration is required by Thursday. Information: 540-459-6777.

Support group

The Brain Injury Support Group will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the Shenandoah University Health Professions Building on the Winchester Medical Center Campus. The goal of the group is to help survivors and caregivers to thrive after traumatic brain injury. The group meets the third Thursday of the month. 4-H/FFA

The Shenandoah County 4-H/FFA Livestock Show and Sale Executive Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Extension office in Woodstock.

Goodlatte

A member of Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s staff will hold open door community office hours on Thursday.  Hours are 9:30-11 a.m. in Town Hall Council Chambers, 135 N. Main St., Woodstock, and from noon to 1 p.m. in the Town Hall Committee Room, 174 E. King St., Strasburg.

 

Game Night

Bowman Library in Stephens City will host a game night  from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday. Middle and high school students can rotate throughout the electronic, card and computer games. Chaperons will be present and snacks will be provided. Information: www.handleyregional.org.

Conservatory

The Shenandoah Conservatory will host the New York Theatre Company Bedlam performing “Hamlet” and “Saint Joan”  this week at the Glaize Studio Theatre.   “Hamlet” performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, and “Saint Joan”  performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Bingo

The Laurel Hill Christian Church will host bingo from 7-10 p.m. Friday to benefit the Strasburg FFA Soils Team National Competition in Oklahoma. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cover charge is $3 and cost is a quarter per card per game.  Snacks provided.

The Strasburg Fire Department will host quarter bingo from 6-9 p.m. Saturday.  Doors open at 5 p.m.  Food will be available.  Proceeds will benefit the Fire Department Auxiliary. Information: call/text 540-758-3384.

 

Auction

A silent auction to benefit Faith Lutheran Preschool will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Valley Fire Department. Food available for free-will offering. Over 100 items expected. To donate, contact Linda at linda1@shentel.net or 540-933-6497.

 

Tournament

Handley Library will host the annual Scholastic Chess Tournament from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday; doors open at 9:15 a.m. The tournament is open to all students grades K-12. Registration required for participation. Registration/information: www.winchesterchess.com.
