Book/Jewelry/Bake Sale

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Organization of Catholic Women will hold its annual Book, Jewelry and Bake Sale 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday in the church hall on Amherst Street near the Winchester Medical Center. Information: contact Pat or Phil Weber, 540-667-6763.

Clubs

The St. Luke-Saumsville 4-H Club and Cloverbuds will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Saumsville Christian Church. Information:  540-459-6140.

The Shenandoah County 4-H Livestock Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wakemans Grove Church of the Brethren. Information: 540-459-6140.

Pancake Breakfast

The Front Royal United Methodist Women will hold a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Cost is $3 for children 3-6; $2 for children under 3; $7 for youth and adults; and a maximum of $20 per family (living in the same household). All proceeds benefit missions of the United Methodist Women. Call the church office to reserve your seat: 540-635-2935.

Volunteer Orientation

The Humane Society of Warren County will hold a Junior Volunteer Orientation 5:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday for youth Paws to Read Program volunteers age 10-15. A parent must attend the orientation.  Junior volunteers meet the first two Wednesdays of each month 5:30-7:30 p.m. Information: 540-635-4734 ext 227.

Genealogy Workshop

Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will host a Genealogy Workshop 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday.  Learn about the library’s genealogy resources – online databases offered and print resources in the Virginia history room. For those new to genealogy, learn how to start a search. The workshop is held monthly on the second Tuesday. Information: 540-635-3153 or www.samuelslibrary.net.

Fly Fishing

Winchester Trout Unlimited has joined with Escutcheon Brewing, 142 W. Commercial St. in Winchester, to host a “Bar Fly” event at 7 p.m. Wednesday to offer anglers the opportunity to learn more about the organization and to tie some fishing flies. No fly-tying or fly-fishing experience necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring their fly-tying vise and any food they wish to eat or share (no drinks). Poetry Night

The Shenandoah Poetry Alliance and Friends of Handley Regional Library will sponsor an Open Mic Poetry Night  6 – 8 p.m.  Wednesday in the Handley Library Auditorium. Information: www.handleyregional.org.

Archives Search

Research your Revolutionary War soldier in the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives of the Handley Library from 6:30-8 p.m.  Wednesday. Get tips on how to track down your Revolutionary War fighters. Information: 540-662-9041, ext 22 or archives@handleyregional.org.

Virginia Cooperative Extension

The Virginia Cooperative Extension will host two educational meetings on “Improving Cow-Calf Profitability through Better Forage Management.” The first meeting will be held 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thuersday at the Toms Brook Fire Department and the second meeting will be 6-9 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Stanley Fire Hall. Fundraiser

Zion Lutheran Church, 321 Headquarters Road – Hamburg, will host a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper with all the fixings on Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m. This is a fundraiser to help Mike McMinn with medical expenses.

Reading Program

Register your child for Shenandoah County Library’s Winter Reading Program and he or she will receive one stuffed snuggle buddy, bookmark, and sticker chart. If you successfully read 30 or more books together during the month of February, your child can choose a prize book starting in March. The program is free and open to all children from birth through first grade. Sign your child up at the county library in Edinburg.
