Pet of the Week: Meet Dusty, the old dog who acts like a puppy

WINCHESTER – Some dogs are old souls, even as puppies. But not Dusty. He’s more like a puppy in and old dog’s skin.

Since he was found as a stray, the Frederick County Esther Boyd Animal Shelter caretakers can only approximate his age, but animal caretaker Kamryn Dixon estimates the chocolate lab mix is somewhere around 13.

“I think people see age, you know, like, ‘Oh man, he’s just going to lay around and not do much,'” Dixon said. “He still has plenty of energy … he wants to be out and about.”

Dusty was already neutered when taken into the shelter, and he has since been given his parvo/distemper shot.

The old pup knows commands like “sit” and he’s been doing pretty well with housetraining, Dixon said. She suggested Dusty would be best for an active, single person looking for a companion, or possibly for a family with children.

Because Dusty was already neutered, Dixon said Dusty’s adoption fee is $30. For more information, contact the shelter at 540-667-9192 or drop in at 161 Fort Collier Road, Winchester.
