Barbecues

Two chicken barbecues will be held Saturday to benefit Relay for Life.

  • The First Baptist Church Relay for Life team will hold a chicken barbecue from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Rite Aid in Woodstock. The time was incorrect in Tuesday’s issue. The cost is $4 per half. Preorders: George Brinkley, 459-2507 or 540-335-2545.
  • The Relay for Life Team Goodloe will hold a chicken barbecue and bake sale from 8 to 11 a.m. at Tractor Supply in Woodstock. The sponsor and time were incorrect in Tuesday’s issue.

 

Workshop

Bowman Library in Stephens City will host a workshop on late winter sowing from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

La Leche

Handley Library will host a La Leche meeting, a support group for breast-feeding mothers, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday. No registration required.

Book club

Handley Library will host a Graphic Novel Book Club from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday for ages 12 and up.

Book sale

Bowman Library in Stephens City will host a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 23-24.

A preview night for Friends of Handley Regional Library members will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Information: 540-662-9041.

 

Equine volunteers

The Blue Ridge Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship is seeking lesson volunteers for its eight-week spring session that begins April 9.

Orientation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 644 Lime Marl Lane, Millwood. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Equine experience required for horse leader positions and experience is preferred but not required for side walkers. Orientation will be followed by several hands-on training sessions during the next week.

Breakfast

John Stelzl, pastor at John Wesley United Methodist Church, will be the speaker at a Lenten breakfast at 9 a.m. March 24 at the Front Royal United Methodist Church.

The cost is $6 for adults. Proceeds benefit the Thermal Shelter of Front Royal.

Tax assistance

People Incorporated, in partnership with the Virginia CASH Campaign and other local partners, will offer free income tax preparation assistance through April 11 at 135 S. Main St., Woodstock.

Households that make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers are qualified for assistance.

IRS-certified volunteers will provide free basic income tax return preparation with free electronic federal and state return filing.

A list of required documents and to schedule an appointment is available by calling Tina Starling at 459-9096.
