Shower

A card shower is planned for Iris Munch, who will celebrate her 87th birthday Thursday. Cards can be sent to her c/o Skyline Terrace Nursing Home, 123 Lakeview Drive, Room 19-A, Woodstock, Virginia 22664.

Bee program

New Market beekeepers Hank and Maureen Marien will present a program at the meeting of the Mount Jackson Garden Club at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Information: Kitty Bolinger at 856-2274 or email kitty@shentel.net.

 

Luncheon

The Strasburg Chamber of Commerce will host a legislative luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Wayside Inn in Middletown.

Speakers include 15th District Delegate Todd Gilbert and Strasburg Mayor Rich Orndorff Jr.

The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Reservations required by calling Angie Herman at 540-335-6263.

 

Brethren

Antioch Church of the Brethren will hold an Easter service at 7 p.m. Friday at 23502 Senedo Road, Woodstock. The theme is “Beneath the Cross of Jesus.”

Bake sales

The following area bake sales will be held:

  • Woodstock: 7:30 a.m., Friday at Woodstock Fire Department. Sponsor: Ladies Auxiliary. Also country ham sandwiches, colored eggs.
  • Mount Jackson: 7 a.m., Saturday at Mount Jackson Fire & Rescue.
  • Strasburg: 8:30 a.m.-noon, Saturday in front of First Bank. Sponsor: North Mountain Lutheran Parish. Benefit: Relay for Life.
  • Woodstock: 8 a.m.-noon, Saturday at Valley Treasures, Woodstock Shopping Center. Benefit: Furry Friends Animal Rescue.
  • Front Royal: 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday in front of Sprint Store, Royal Plaza Shopping Center. Sponsor: Bethel United Methodist Church Women’s Group.

 

Breakfasts

The following area breakfasts will be held Saturday:

  • Strasburg: 7-10 a.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church on Back Road. Free-will offering. Benefit building fund.
  • Mount Jackson: 7-11 a.m. at Mount Jackson Fire & Rescue. Offering.

 

Rubbermaid sale

The United Way Rubbermaid product sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Belk parking lot at Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester. Proceeds benefit AIDS Response Effort.

 

Barbecues

The following area chicken barbecues will be held Saturday:

  • Woodstock: 9:30 a.m., at Woodstock American Legion Post 199. Sponsor: Veterans, Sons and Ladies Auxiliary.
  • Strasburg: 11 a.m., at Borden’s Lumber. Benefit: Relay for Life.

 

Egg hunts

The following area Easter egg hunts will be held Saturday:

  • Mount Jackson Fire & Rescue: 10 a.m. Visit by the Easter Bunny. Children should bring a basket.
  • Front Royal: 11 a.m. at Fantasyland Park. Games, moon bounce, food, raffles. Sponsor: The Church at Skyline.
  • Edinburg: 2 p.m. at VFW Post 2447 for children up to age 11.

 

Cantata

John Wesley United Methodist Church in Front Royal will hold an Easter cantata at 3 p.m. Saturday celebrating Friend and Family Day.

 

Candlelight walk

A candlelight walk for autism awareness will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ruffner Plaza at the Greenway in Luray.

There will be entertainment, food, a sensory area for kids and a guest speaker. Those attending should bring a candle.
