School news
Heidi Trude, a French teacher at Skyline High School in Front Royal, was awarded the 2018 Southern Conference on Language Teaching Teacher of the Year Award during its annual conference March 15-17 in Atlanta.
She will advance to the national competition in November in New Orleans.
She has established an international partnership between her school and Lycee-Bazin in Charleville-Mezieres, France, is a Google-certified educator and was selected to train at the Googleplex Institute in Mountain View, California. She has created LANGtalks, professional development videos for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language and presents regularly to the Foreign Language Association of Virginia.
Paint party
Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ in Woodstock will host a paint party led by Toni Dinges at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Rotary
The Rotary Club of Woodstock will host its annual shrimp and catfish dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Woodstock Moose Lodge.
Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children, who have an option of chicken nuggets. Proceeds will benefit the club’s Christmas baskets and Coats for Kids projects. Tickets, information: woodstockvarotary@gmail.com.
Lunch
The North Mountain Lutheran Parish’s Relay for Life Team will hold a potpie lunch, with baked and sloppy pot pie, salad and dessert, starting at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Toms Brook.
Farmer’s market
The New Market Farmer’s Market will hold a vendors meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday at Dunkin Donuts on West Old Cross Road.
The new season will begin from 2 to 6 p.m. May 4. Information: Apryl Donovan at 540-246-3800.
Rain barrels
The Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River and Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a rain barrel workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 17 at the Mount Jackson Town Office.
The cost is $45 per barrel. Space is limited. Information: 540-459-8550.
