Shower

A card shower is planned for Dorothy Gatchell, who will celebrate her 91st birthday Saturday. Cards can be sent to 156 N. Main St., Woodstock, Virginia 22664.

Barbecue

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church will hold a chicken barbecue starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wholesome Foods barbecue pit in Edinburg.

The cost is $4 per half. Chicken can also be purchased at the church on Main Street in Mount Jackson.

Library

Handley Library in Winchester will hold the following programs:

  • Preschool time (ages 3-up): 10:30 a.m., Monday.
  • Graphic Novel Club (ages 12-up): 6 p.m., Monday.
  • Nonfiction Writers Group: 6:30 p.m., Monday.
  • Baby Time (ages 0-15 months): 10:30 a.m., Tuesday.

4-H

The Shenandoah County Extension Office has announced the following meetings will be held:

  • Lebanon Church 4-H Club and Cloverbuds will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Community Center.
  • Cabin Hill 4-H Club and Cloverbuds will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Conicville Fire Department.

Bloodmobile

The Shenandoah chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association will hold its annual memorial blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at the Youth Development Center, 3 Battaile Drive, Winchester.

The blood drive is being held in honor of those lost and injured in 2007 on the Virginia Tech campus.

Walk-ins are welcome but registration is encouraged at www.redcrossblood.org and insert zip code 22601.

 

Contest

Handley Regional Library in Winchester will accept entries for the Shenandoah Valley Tapestry stitching contest from 1 to 6 p.m. May 1.

Needlework of all types depicting animals will be accepted with a required accompanying story. Awards will be announced May 19 at the Animal Stories in Stitches program.
