Bake sale

The Winchester Women of the Moose Angels Relay for Life Team will hold a bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Split End Hair Salon in Stephens City.


Food drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct its annual food drive today.

Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest single-day food drive, provides neighbors with an easy way to donate food to those in need in their community. Residents simply leave their donation of non-perishable goods next to their mailbox before the delivery of their mail.

Letter carriers will collect donations and distribute them to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank or a partner food pantry in the area. Food in glass containers should not be donated.

Items needed most include: canned soups, stews and chili and canned vegetables (all low sodium), cereal (low sugar, whole grain), peanut or almond butter (low sugar), spaghetti sauce (low sugar), boxed macaroni and cheese, pasta and rice (whole grain), canned tuna and chicken, paper products, baby food, formula, diapers, soap, feminine products, toothbrushes.



A chicken barbecue to benefit the Massanutten Antique Tractor Club will be held starting at 9:30 a.m. today at the Wholesome Foods pit in Edinburg.

The cost is $4 per half. Chicken can also be picked up at the Exxon Station on U.S. 11 in Edinburg or the Food Lion Shopping Center in Mount Jackson. Preorders: Janet at 459-7768.


Yard/bake sale

An indoor yard and bake sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Hudson Crossroads Community Center in Mount Jackson. Proceeds benefit community outreach.



Handley Regional Library is offering individualized one-on-one assistance sessions for its eBook borrowing program.

Sessions will be offered, by appointment, from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Participants will learn how to borrow library eBooks, audio books, magazines, music and more from your Kindle, Fire, Android or Apple smartphone and tablet.

The White House Farm Foundation will host a nature photography workshop and nature walk along the Shenandoah River from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Luray.

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups, for adults with various types of mental illnesses, will meet on the following schedule:

  • Front Royal: 7-8:30 p.m., first and third Tuesdays at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal, conference room next to cafeteria.

The Friends of Handley Regional Library will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the library.

The speaker will be Brad Parks, a Virginia author who will discuss his latest release, “Closer Than You Know.”

Strasburg High School will present the murder mystery musical, “Winston LaCrois is Dead” at 8 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday in the school’s old gymnasium.

Sustainability Matters will hold a community plant, seed and produce swap from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at W.O. Riley Park in Woodstock.
