Showers

  • A card shower is planned for Janie Dyke, who will celebrate her 90th birthday Saturday. Cards can be sent to 37 Thorne Ave., Toms Brook, Virginia 22660.

Breakfast/yard sale

Bennett’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Front Royal will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds benefit the church’s mission trip.

 

Barbecue

A chicken barbecue to benefit Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church will be held starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wholesome Foods pit in Edinburg. Chicken will also be sold in Mount Jackson at the church on Main Street and Holtzman Oil.

 

Yard sale

The Round Hill Ruritan Club will hold a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 164 Poorhouse Road, Winchester.

Tables/spaces are $10 each. The Ladies of the Rescue Mission will provide breakfast and lunch. Information, space reservations: Cyndi at 540-333-2851.

 

Plant sale

The Mount Jackson Garden Club’s annual plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parish hall of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Information: Kitty Bolinger at 856-2272.

 

Know Your Neighbor

The Islamic Society of Winchester will host its annual Know Your Neighbor Iftar dinner, giving people from different faiths and cultures a chance to know one another, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church, 26 W. Boscawen St., Winchester.

Guest speakers will be Winchester Vice Mayor John Hill and Dr. Miles Davis, dean of the Harry F. Bryd Jr. School of Business at Shenandoah University, along with members of the Islamic Society of Winchester and Valley Interfaith Council.

Closings

The following offices and locations will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day:

  • Shenandoah County: Shenandoah County Extension office in Woodstock, New Market Area Library.
  • Warren County: Samuels Public Library in Front Royal.
  • Frederick County: regional landfill and all citizens’ convenience sites.

 

Lunch Bunch

The Lunch Bunch will meet at noon Monday at the Strasburg United Methodist Church. Reservations can be made by calling 540-465-3418.

The following students at Bridgewater College have been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester:

Brittany Lewis, of Cross Junction, a senior majoring in biology.

Julia Sigler, of Edinburg, a senior majoring in liberal studies, earning all A’s.

Luke Cline, a junior majoring in sociology; Jeremy Gingrich, a senior majoring in physics; Teresa Mejia, a sophomore majoring in music. All are from Front Royal.

William K. Woodward III, Maurertown, a junior majoring in biology, earning all A’s.

Sarah Nicole Lutz, of Stephens City, a junior majoring in family and consumer sciences.

Danielle Bochert, of Winchester, a senior majoring in psychology.
