Friday is the deadline to reserve tickets to attend the Shenandoah County Historical Society’s annual dinner meeting at 6 p.m. May 15 at the Edinburg VFW Post 2447.

Brucetown United Methodist Church will hold a fish fry and pulled pork dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at 2161 Brucetown Road in Clear Brook.

The meal will include choice of entrée, two vegetable sides, coleslaw, bread, dessert and drink. Tickets are $10 for one entrée or $13 for two and half-price for children under 12. Carry-out dinners available.


Beth El

Rabbi Peter Grumbacher will lead Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Beth El Congregation, 520 Fairmont Ave., Winchester.

Friday is the deadline to register to attend the District G Virginia Retired Teacher’s Association spring meeting at 10:15 a.m. May 17 at Traditions Restaurant in Harrisonburg.

Local law enforcement departments will present a program on the role of school resource officers.

Bowman Library in Stephens City will host a “Quick and Dirty Out in 30” workshop on herbs led by Master Gardener Dr. Paula Brownlee, from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will host a Mother’s Day gift workshop and tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday for adults and mature children accompanied by an adult.

The program will be drawing mandala patterns on old CD’s. Tea and finger foods served. Registration is required by calling 540-635-3153.


College news

Jeremy Gingrich was awarded the Dale V. Ulrich Physics Scholarship at Bridgewater College. The award honors the college’s former professor of physics, dean and provost.

Gingrich, an applied physics major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Cochran of Front Royal.
