The Friends of Handley Regional Library will hold its Summer Used Book Sale through Saturday at Bowman Library in Stephens City. Proceeds go to benefit programs and events at all three branches of libraries within Handley Regional Library System in Clarke County, Stephens City, and Winchester.
Thousands of books will be available to buy at deeply discounted prices from nearly every genre. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday.
The spring sale brought in proceeds of $18,698. The Friends use some of the money for Children’s Summer Reading Program, A Little Noon Music, Genealogy Bus Trips and visiting authors. The Friends also give money to purchase library materials.
Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue will host bingo on Tuesday. Doors open at 5 p.m. with early bird games followed by regular bingo at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 minimum, and special games are extra.
Wednesday is the deadline to register for the Frederick County YQCA certification workshop from 7 to 10 a.m. and 6-9 p.m. July 11 at the fairgrounds in Clear Brook. Information, registration: 540-635-4549.
The following locations will be closed Wednesday in observance of July 4:
- Shenandoah County Extension office in Woodstock.
- Samuels Public Library in Front Royal.
- All branches of the Handley Regional Library system, Handley in Winchester, Bowman in Stephens City and Clarke County in Berryville.
- Frederick County Regional Landfill and all citizens’ convenience sites.

Area blood drives will be held on the following schedule:
- Wednesday: 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Kernstown Commons Shopping Center sponsored by Greene Turtle and Alamo Cinema & Drafthouse.
- Thursday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday at the Warren County Government Center, Front Royal.

July 6 is the deadline to register for September’s Leadership Shenandoah County program.
The nine-month program inspires, develops, engages and connects diverse leaders to one another, across sectors and experience, increases knowledge and perspectives on key local and regional issues, and provides an environment for challenging and strategic conversations.
Topics include leadership, agriculture/tourism, local government, education, public safety, health care, business/industry and nonprofit/media. Sessions are led by community leaders, professional facilitators and specialists in their respective fields.
