The Winchester chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Winchester Red Cross office, 561 Fortress Drive.

The group will gather for dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Donato’s Touch of Italy Restaurant. The guest speaker will be Virginia Conservation Officer Derrick Kekic.

Outdoor movie

“Beauty and the Beast” will be shown at 8:45 p.m. Thursday at the Taylor Pavilion, 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester. Admission is free. Information: 540-662-4946.


Yard sale

Front Royal United Methodist Church will host an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall. Proceeds benefit missions of the United Methodist Women.


The Rouss Theatre and Center for Arts in New Market will present the comedy “Virgil and the City Slickers” by Eddie McPherson at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Yard/bake sale

Millwood United Methodist Church will hold a yard and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.



Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will hold the program “For the Birds: A Children’s Garden” at 11 a.m. Saturday about regional bird species for ages 6 and older. Children will craft and paint a terra-cotta birdbath to take home and enjoy a picnic. Information: 540-635-3153.


Poetry and Fiddle

Margarita Pavlova Janakiev, former chef and co-owner of Cafe Sofia, will read from her book of poems “Through the Lazy Eye of My Camera Obscura” at 2 p.m. Saturday at Handley Library in Winchester.

Janakiev will combine her writing and cooking skills into a memorable gourmet poetry, offering guests a taste of her shrimp salad. Signed copies of her book will also be available for sale with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the SPCA. Sean Costello from the Amber Waves Band will play his violin.



The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley will hold an adult workshop, Plein Air & Lego Bricks, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 901 Amherst St., Winchester.

Inspired by the exhibition, Nature Connects: Art with Lego Bricks, attendees will explore the art of painting outdoors led by art instructor Megan Caldwell. Beginners welcome. The cost is $40 or $30 for MSV members. Information: 540-662-1473 or www.themsv.org.



Bowman Library in Stephens City will hold the following programs:

Saturday: 10 a.m., chess for all ages; 11 a.m., family storytime; 1 p.m., family film “Coco” will be shown, bring a picnic lunch, lemonade and popcorn provided.
