Edinburg VFW Post 2447 will hold a chicken barbecue from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The cost is $4 per half.  Pre-orders accepted.



The Cedar Creek Valley Ruritan Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gravel Springs Lutheran Church, 870 S. Pifer Road, Star Tannery. Information: 465-4159.


The Shenandoah County Extension office in Woodstock has announced the following meetings will be held:

  • The Leadership Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Extension office.
  • Little North Mountain 4-H Shooting Education Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church in Strasburg.
  • Master Gardeners will be available to answer home horticulture questions from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Extension office.
  • Culpeper Shenandoah Rappahannock Spotsylvania 4-H camp counseling training will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Front Royal.

Outdoor movie

A free outdoor movie will be shown at 8:45 p.m. Thursday at the Taylor Pavilion, 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

The movie being shown is “Despicable Me 3.” Information: 540-662-4946.



VFW Post 2123 will host a flag retirement ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday at the post home, 121 Bruce Drive, Winchester.


Outdoor movie

The movie “Frozen” will be shown at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gazebo in Front Royal.


Ham radio

The Amateur Ham Radio Operators Club meets at 8:30 a.m. each Thursday at Cook’s Exxon in Woodstock. Information: Malcolm at 436-8503.
